About Me
My name is Sebastian Montenegro and I am currently a Data Scientist at HSN (part of the Qurate Retail Group). I earned my PhD in Economics from The University of Texas at Dallas. My primary fields of interest are fair lending, education, labor economics, data analytics/data science, and applied econometrics.
In this website you will find information about my work experience and a description of select projects I have worked on (see Research and Consulting). I will also post interesting and cool articles and resources that align with my areas of interest (see Cool Stuff & Interesting Info).
In one of my dissertation chapters–specifically my job market paper–I utilized a regression-discontinuity design (RDD for short). I believe it is such a powerful and insightful tool if used properly. You can read through a brief introduction to the RDD that I put together–along with my paper–and use it as a learning tool and first-step to master this method.
You will also find–and I think this is the most useful resource here–advice on how to land an industry job after Grad school. I will share the experiences I collected while I was on the market and all the things I believe you should know and do in order to send a good signal to your potential employers, including tips for your behavioral and technical interviews.
